Gua Sha is thousands of years old, but no one knows exactly how old or exactly where it was created. (At any time you can sign up to watch our free short video on the history of Gua Sha…)
Who invented Gua Sha? Where did it come from? What does it mean? What is it good for? Does anyone still use this ancient form of healing? These are all great questions.
Gua Sha been performed by regular people for regular people for over 2000 years.
Gua Sha is easy to perform but a profoundly effective healing technique. It’s true Folk Medicine. It was adopted into Traditional Chinese Medicine over the years. Today, millions of people around the world use Gua Sha for healing. Practitioners all over the world have learned the skills and techniques of Gua Sha.
How does it work? You take a simple household object like a Chinese ceramic soup spoon, and you gently rub the surface of the skin, lifting out stuck energy. That’s it. It’s that simple…of course, with practice comes skill. There are some highly skilled practitioners out there who can get amazing results with the use of Gua Sha alone, or combined with other healing modalities, like cupping.
What can it help with? Aches, pains, muscle pulls or strains. Carpel tunnel syndrome, tight IT bands, plantar fasciitis, colds, flu, shingles, allergies, and more.
Next time you have any aches or pains or you feel like you are coming down with a cold, remember to get out your spoon and do Gua Sha!
